Al was born in Massachusetts and currently resides in Atlantic Beach, Florida. He has been writing songs in a variety of styles for more than twenty years. He has written tunes in jazz, pop, folk and gospel. As a child his dad played guitar and sang cowboy or western music sometimes referred to as western swing. He experienced the sixties sounds and was influenced by soul, rock, jazz, pop and blues. His first CD Go Get A Life Of Your Own, is primarily romantic jazz. The second CD, E-Minor Soup was released in September 2005. It is an eclectic mix of instrumental tunes with a live feel.
At the age of twelve he was involved in a folk coffee house known as the Flying Lion located in his hometown of Fall River. The Flying Lion had many great artists play various styles of music. He was introduced to some talented folk/ blues artists including Dave Van Ronk, Bob Dylan, Jaime Brocket and Tom Rush. |
He has been married to the love of his life, Deborah for over thirty-four years and has three children and three grandchildren. Al is a former Marine who received an all expense paid tour of South East Asia in 1969 and 1970. He also spent approximately six years in the US Army who managed to provide him with a tour of Germany. In addition he spent three years in the Florida National Guard. He enjoys playing and singing for adults and children. He feels at home playing in front of crowds or one on one for a child at a local hospital.
You'll find that Al is a very accomplished guitarist and singer songwriter. When asked to comment about what it takes to write a good song he gave the following answer: “A good song touches the heart like a good book and a close friend. It is seamless and has no need for explanation. It makes a statement and sends emotions to places in the heart where very few may enter. In a sense a good song is a book in music format. It has a prelude or opening, a series of paragraphs we call verses, some sort of twist to the plot, we refer to as the bridge, a final paragraph, and then the all-important closing or coda, we call the ending. To be able to touch someone with your song is pure magic of the highest order. Make no mistake about it, song writing is an art and just as there are very few great artists, there are very few great songwriters. It takes time, effort and skill to write a good tune. My goal is to excel in writing music and lyrics that have meaning and purpose and are able to touch someone at the exact point in time when they need it most.”If you like the songs, please tell others about this site.
